Men's Pair, Lightweight Four Move On To Semis Of Dad Vail Regatta

PHILADELPHIA - The Loyola University Maryland men's rowing pair and lightweight four crews qualified for the semifinals at the Dad Vail Regatta on Friday, after putting together top performances amid their respective heats.
The men's pair of Michael Blume and James McCarron finished third in their heat with a time of 7:16.53. The duo beat teams from Fairfield, Fordham, Duke and Delaware to compete in the next round of competition Saturday morning.
The Greyhound men's lightweight four took second in its qualifying-first round, recording a time of 6:44.06. Coxswain Emily Arcese, Walter Horan, Rob Moore, Theodore Fortier and Craig MacAdams will face Drexel, Delaware, Villanova, Rollins and New York Maritime in the semifinals tomorrow.
The men's heavyweight finished fourth, as Craig Spicer, Joe Wawrzynski, Filip Zigic, Bryan Carney and cox Patrick Flynn finished with a time of 6:52.76. Drexel and Virginia advanced among the crews in the Greyhounds' heat, while Loyola finished ahead of Maryland Baltimore County and Endicott.
On the women's side both crews finished just outside the qualifying margin led by Eleni Papadatos in the single's race. The sophomore rower set a mark of 9:10.327. She finished nearly a minute ahead of the fifth-place finisher from N.C. State.
Cox Serena Rivera, Dakota Corvalan, Megan Rabenberg, Amanda Fleck, Alyssa Villani, Lindsay Hilliard, Gabrielle Campitiello, Carly McMahon and Carter Lahey also finished one-spot off from the semifinals, recording a fourth-place finish in the women's novice eight. The Greyhounds recorded a time of 7:24.89.
The men's pair takes to the water for the semifinal race on, Saturday, May 10 at 9 a.m., followed by the lightweight crew at 9:15.
