Women's Varsity Four Wins Petite Final At Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. - The Loyola University Maryland women's crew team finished first in the petite final at the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J., on Sunday morning. The men's team finished fifth.

Coxswain Katherine Griffin, Catriona Miller, Margaret Ajello, Andrea Almeida and Julianne Roccuzzo led the women’s crew team to a first-place finish in the petite final, rowing their fastest time of the weekend at 7:48.83.

 The Greyhounds just held off Duke down the stretch, edging out the Blue Devils by .5 seconds. The crew also beat teams from North Carolina, Delaware, Boston College and New Hampshire.

The men’s side of Thomas Quinn, Jordan Mastera, Ryan Walsh, Joe Wawrzynski and Christopher Golon finished fifth in the petite final, crossing the line in 7:02.52.

Rochester won the race in 6:52.12 followed by Washington College, Iona and Fairfield.

The crew teams are next at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in West Windsor, N.J. on April 28.
