Loyola's volleyball team wraps up its 2008 schedule this weekend with a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matches. The weekend will be highlighted on Saturday by the Greyhounds' final home match of the year and a celebration of the team's three senior student-athletes.
Saturday, Loyola hosts Fairfield at 12 p.m., and the Greyhounds close their season on Sunday when they travel to Lawerenceville, N.J. for a 12 p.m. match against Rider.
Prior to Saturday's contest, the Greyhounds will honor three members of the Greyhounds' team that have been a huge part of the program for the last several seasons - seniors Samantha Greenbaum, Christina Greenup and Rachel Schillinger.
Greenbaum has logged career highs in nearly every statistical category this season. Earlier this year, she stepped in to the setting role, showing her true team-first attitude since she had never played the position. She had career-highs of 31 assists and 11 digs in a win over Saint Francis.
Since coming to campus in 2004, Greenup has been one of the top hitters for the Greyhounds. She has totaled 938 kills throughout her career and has been amongst the top two leaders on the team in kills per game since starting her career. Greenup has also recorded almost 150 blocks and 400 digs. This season, Greenup leads the team in kills per game (2.59).
A starter since her freshman year in 2005, Schillinger has been a rock in the middle of the Greyhounds offensive and defensive attack for four seasons. She has posted 984 total kills and 372 blocks during her career, and she has a hitting percentage of over .220. In each of her four season, she has recorded at least 190 kills.
The Greyhounds (7-24 overall, 3-12 MAAC) split a pair of home matches last weekend, defeating Rider in four before losing to Saint Peter's in four. Earlier this season, Fairfield downed Loyola in straight-sets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-19.
