EDISON, N.J. - Loyola University Maryland freshman outside hitter Tina Catanach was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week today after helping the Greyhounds to a pair of league victories last week.
Catanach had 29 kills and hit .250 from the outside as Loyola defeated Saint Peter's and Rider. She also posted 16 digs for the Greyhounds as one of the team's primary passers.
On Wednesday, Catanach logged a career three-set high with 15 kills as Loyola swept Saint Peter's.
She followed that effort with a 14-kill outing as the Greyhounds rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Rider in five on Saturday night.
Catanach entered the third set with just two kills in her stats column, but she paced Loyola's offense as it outlasted the Broncs in a five-set match. She hit .258 in the match and was one dig away from a double-double, finishing with nine.
The Greyhounds close out their 2011 season this weekend when they host a pair of MAAC matches of Reitz Arena. Canisius comes to town on Saturday night for a 7 o'clock contest, and Niagara will take the court versus Loyola at 12 noon on Sunday.
