EDISON, N.J. - Loyola sophomore outside hitter Nina Camaioni was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week today after leading the Greyhounds to a 2-1 record last week.
Camaioni averaged 3.42 kills and 5.08 digs per set in the three matches.
She led the team with 24 digs and three block assists in the Greyhounds four-set win on Sunday over Manhattan. Camaioni also had 13 kills and hit .355 against the Jaspers, helping the Greyhounds hit a season-high .305 as a team.
On Saturday evening, the Greyhounds battled Iona to the brink, losing a close five-set match. Camaioni led the team with 18 kills and also had 23 digs against the Gaels.
In a three-set sweep at Navy on Tuesday night, the 2007 MAAC Rookie of the Year had 10 kills and 14 digs.
The award is the first of the season for Camaioni. She earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors four times last season.
The Greyhounds continue MAAC play on Saturday when they visit Marist at 2 p.m. They then take on Siena on Sunday at 2 p.m.
