This Week's Action

  • Loyola University Maryland's volleyball team is back in Baltimore for two weekend matches, marking the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference weekend the Greyhounds have spent at home since September 17-18 when they opened league play against Marist and Siena.
  • The Greyhounds will host Fairfield on Saturday and Iona on Sunday. Both matches are slated for 2 o'clock first serves.

Bullock, Lukas Lead The Offense

  • Jac Bullock and Faye Lukas led Loyola in kills in each of its three matches last week, both totaling at least 10 in the three contests.
  • Lukas posted 15 against Manhattan and then had 10 versus Marist and 12 against Siena, all team-leading performances. It is the first time in her career Lukas has posted three-straight matches with 10 or more kills.
  • Bullock added 14 versus the Jaspers and 10 each against the Red Foxes and Saints. Earlier this season, Bullock notched four matches in a row with 10 or more kills.

Throwing Up The Block

  • Loyola posted 10 total blocks last Sunday against Siena, it's second-best performance of the season. Mindy Maloney had a season-high tying eight blocks against the Saints, five of a solo variety. Stags & Gaels Fairfield comes to Reitz Arena owner of a 13-9 record and a 10-2 mark in MAAC action. The Stags defeated the Greyhounds in three, in Connecticut, on October 1. Brianna Dixon leads Fairfield with a 3.13 kills per set average, and Rachel Romansky boasts a 10.49 assists per set mark.
  • Iona, which plays at Rider on Saturday before coming to Baltimore, enters the weekend 10-11 overall and 7-6 in the league. Alicja Pawelec tops the team with 3.79 kills per set, and Theresa Harvey starts the weekend with a 5.60 digs per set mark.

New Position For Dircks

  • Katie Dircks has stepped into the team's libero role since returning from an injury and produced nice dig numbers last weekend. Dircks has posted four-straight games with 12 or more digs and had matches with 14, 17 and 14 last week.

Burns Receives AVCA Scholarship

  • Loyola Assistant Coach Cynammon Burns was named one of 12 recipients nationally of the American Volleyball Coaches Association Minority Coaches Scholarship. The scholarship will be used for professional development workshops at the upcoming AVCA Convention. Burns is in her first year at Loyola after a standout career as a libero at American University.

  • Loyola posted a season-high 76 digs in its victory over Rider despite the fact the match was over in three sets. The Greyhounds' previous high of 73 came in a five-set affair with Siena.
  • The Broncs had 144 attack attempts in the match, but they hit just .153 thanks to Loyola's solid defense.
  • Janet Pressler posted 23 digs, while Tina Catanach added 13, and Casey O'Hanlon had 10.

Pressler Passes

  • Janet Pressler continued her solid play as the team's libero, totaling 23 digs against Rider. She has posted 10 or more digs in 12 of 14 matches that she has served as the libero (beginning August 27 against Tennessee State), and the only two matches she did not reach double-figures, she posted nine in three-set contests.
  • She has 235 digs this season, an average of 3.85, and she has led the squad in digs in all but two of the matches she has served as libero. During MAAC play, Pressler has averaged 4.43 digs per set, a mark that ranks fourth in the league.
  • Pressler was name the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the win over Rider.
