On The Road Again

  • Loyola University Maryland volleyball will be well acquainted with the New Jersey Turnpike for the next two weeks as the Greyhounds kick off a 5-match, 11-day road trip against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foes.
  • The Greyhounds start on Wednesday, October 10, with a 6 o’clock match in Riverdale, N.Y., at Manhattan College, followed by a pair of 2 o’clock contests on Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14, at Siena College and Marist College in Upstate New York. Before returning to Baltimore, the Greyhounds will play in Jersey City against Saint Peter’s University on Monday, October 15, at 5 p.m.
  • Next weekend, Loyola will have just one match, a Saturday, October 20, contest at Rider University.

A Look At The Competition

  • The Greyhounds and Manhattan will square off just four days after their most recent match, a five-set Jaspers’ triumph in Baltimore. Manhattan is now 10-10 overall with a 5-4 mark in the MAAC.
  • Siena brings a 11-9 record and 5-3 tally in the conference into the weekend, while Marist is 6-12, 2-6. Saint Peter’s, which Loyola defeated in three last Saturday, is currently 1-21, 0-8.

Looking Back

  • Loyola hit .354 as a team, and four players had six or more kills last Saturday, as the Greyhounds defeated Saint Peter’s in three.
  • Manhattan outlasted the Greyhounds in five on Sunday afternoon, despite Faye Lukas’ career-high 29 kills.

One-Upping Her Best

  • Junior outside hitter Faye Lukas has steadily improved her career-high in kills throughout the season. Last year, she set her best at 17, and she then upped it to 19 and a day later 20 during this season’s second weekend. She stretched it to 22 in a home win over Charleston Southern University on September 8, but Lukas blew that mark away with 28 on September 29 against Iona.
  • She took it one further, literally, on October 7 against Manhattan, putting away 29 kills, the most by a player in the MAAC this season.
  • Through 18 matches this year, Lukas is averaging 3.94 kills per set, tops in the MAAC. She has 268 total in 730 swings. Her numbers are up sharply from a year ago when she finished with 247 (2.25 kps) and a .130 percentage. This year, she is hitting .200.

Another Career-Best

  • Lauren Andersen also had a career-best day against Manhattan, passing out 61 assists to top her previous best by four. In addition to her assists, she had 18 digs against the Jaspers.
  • This season, she is averaging 10.10 assists per set, the third-best total in the conference. In league play, her average is up to 10.29 per set.
