Two For The Road
  • Loyola University Maryland volleyball heads north this weekend for a pair of Patriot League matches this weekend before it returns to Reitz Arena for three of its next four contests.
  • The Greyhounds play at Bucknell University on Friday, Oct. 9, and then head to Colgate University for a Saturday, Oct. 10, match.

Making Strides Statistically
  • Through 19 matches this season, Loyola has not only shown a four-win improvement over all of last season, the Greyhounds have taken steps statistically that have shown progress.
  • Last year, the team hit just .127 cumulatively, but this year, that number is up 56 points to .183, a mark that ranks fifth in the Patriot League. Loyola has raised its kills (11.34-10.54) and assists (10.26-9.94), too, but the biggest gap is the cut in errors per set. The Greyhounds have dropped nearly one error per set this year, 5.35 as opposed to last year’s 6.34.
  • Loyola’s blocking has also been considerably better than last year. The Greyhounds are tied for fourth in the league in blocks per set (2.00) after averaging just 1.19 last year.

Serve-Receive Improvement
  • Loyola snapped a 19-match Patriot League losing streak last Sunday when it swept College of the Holy Cross thanks in large part to a solid serve-receive game.
  • The Greyhounds, who had not won a conference match since the 2013 season finale against Bucknell, had just one receiving error against the Crusaders; Loyola’s previous low this year was four. The Greyhounds also had 58 digs, a season-high for three-set matches.

Freshmen Making An Impact
  • Freshmen Haley Puddy and Molly Werts have been key players for the Greyhounds through 19 matches. Puddy leads Patriot League freshmen in blocks per set (1.04) and hitting percentage (.312), stats she ranks fourth and fifth overall in the League.
  • Puddy’s 68 total blocks rank 12th amongst NCAA Division I freshmen. In that same group, she is 10th nationally in total points (237.5).
  • Werts has been the Greyhounds’ setter this year, averaging 8.52 assists per set, the No. 6 mark overall in the League, and she is fourth on the team in kills (64).
