EDISON, N.J. - Loyola freshman outside hitter Nina Camaioni was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for the third time this year and the second week in a row, the conference office announced today.
Camaioni helped the Greyhounds to a pair of wins last week, three-game defeats of Navy and Manhattan. She also had a solid outing in Loyola's five-game loss to Fairfield.
Against the Midshipmen, Camaioni led all players with 13 kills, pacing the Greyhounds in their first win against Navy since the 1998 season.
She followed that performance with 13 kills again, another match-high, against Manhattan, adding 17 digs and three block assists against the Jaspers.
In the Greyhounds five-game loss against the Stags, Camaioni had 14 kills. She also reached the 30-dig plateau for the second time this season, registering 30 digs.
This season, Camaioni leads Loyola with 302 kills (3.43 per game), and she is second on the team in digs (337), digs per game (3.83) and service aces (31).
Camaioni received the MAAC Rookie of the Week award last week and on September 10, as well. Loyola student-athletes have won four of the six award this season, as Brittany Born received the September 17 honor.
