EDISON, N.J. - Loyola freshman libero Brittany Born was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week for September 10-16, 2007, after an outstanding performance in two matches last weekend.
She is the second-straight Loyola player to earn the award after freshman outside hitter Nina Camaioni was tabbed for the week of September 3-9.
Born joined the 30-Dig Club on Saturday at Niagara, finishing the five-game match with 33 digs, leading all players. On Sunday at Canisius, the Ellicott City, Md., native, made 19 digs to finish the week with 52, an average of 5.78 per game.
The Greyhounds won both matches to start MAAC play with a 2-0 record, the first time they've achieved that mark since the 2002 season.
As the primary passer in Loyola's serve-receive, Born had 65 service receptions during the two matches and made only one error. She also had a set assist and a service ace at Canisius.
Loyola (8-6 overall) returns to non-conference action this evening with a 7 p.m. home match against George Washington. The Greyhounds then host their first two MAAC matches of the season on Saturday and Sunday, both at 1 p.m., versus Siena and Marist.
