Final Tournament
  • Loyola University Maryland plays its final tournament of the 2015 regular-season this weekend when it makes the trip up Interstate 95 to play in the Delaware Invitational.
  • The Greyhounds will play Sacred Heart University and the host Blue Hens on Friday, Sept. 18, before taking on Morgan State University the following morning.

Freshmen Draw Honors
  • Loyola swept the Patriot League’s weekly honors on Monday when Molly Werts was named the Patriot League Player of the Week and Haley Puddy took home Rookie of the Week honors. The honors were the first of the weekly variety that any Loyola player has earned since the Greyhounds joined the League in 2013.
  • The Texas natives led the Greyhounds to a 3-1 week that included wins over Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) University, Manhattan College and North Carolina Central University.
  • Werts had the first triple-double (10 kills, 31 assists, 15 digs) by a Loyola player since at least 2000 against Manhattan and averaged 1.53 kills per set, posting at least four per match, and only committed three errors for a .500 hitting percentage. She also dished out 8.35 assists per set and was second on the team with 2.41 digs per game.
  • Puddy posted a .440 hitting percentage last week, while tying for the team lead with 48 kills, an average of 2.82 per set. She also led the Greyhounds in blocking, with 18 total, and set a career-high with seven blocks in the four-set win over Manhattan.

Making Strides
  • In just eight matches this year, Loyola exceeded its win total from the 2014 season (2), and the Greyhounds have now won four of their last five matches. The Greyhounds’ statistical performances bear out those results, as well.
  • Through the North Carolina Central match, Loyola is hitting .188 this year, up from .127 a year ago. Other numbers have seen a significant uptick, too: kills per set (11.45-10.54), assists per set (10.50-9.94) and blocks per set (1.98-1.19).

In The Middle Of Things
  • Loyola’s middle blockers, Haley Puddy and Corri Waters, posted excellent numbers in the finale of the UMES Fall Fling last weekend, combining for 17 kills without an error for a .472 hitting percentage.
  • The duo also had 10 total blocks, led by Waters’ career-high eight.
