Take Two: Loyola hits the road for the second-straight weekend, as the Greyhounds travel to Philadelphia for the LaSalle Invitational August 31 and September 1... The Greyhounds play four neutral site contests at the event, beginning with a 12 p.m. match on the 31st against local foe, Maryland-Baltimore County... Loyola also plays Lafayette at 4:30 p.m. Friday, then takes on a fellow Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference team, St. Peter's, in a non-conference match at 10 a.m. on Saturday... The Greyhounds close the tournament with a 2 p.m. match against the host Explorers... The competition is the second of three straight weekends of tournament play for the Greyhounds.

The Opponents: This weekend's action will be the first of the season for Loyola's first opponent, UMBC. The Retrievers wrapped up last season with a 16-15 record, the program's first since 2002 and a spot in the America East Championship match. UMBC enters the 2007 season as the America East preseason favorite. Last year's conference Rookie of the Year Ashley Oscars led the Retrievers in 2006 with a 4.0 kills per game mark... Lafayette also opens its season this weekend after finishing 2006 with an 18-10 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the Patriot League. Senior outside hitter Michaela Donohue is the Leopards top returning hitter after averaging 2.72 kills as a junior... St. Peter's defeated the Greyhounds twice during the 2006 regular-season, but Loyola defeated the Peahens in three games in the MAAC Championships. St. Peter's opened its 2007 campaign at 2-3 with wins coming against New Jersey Institute of Technology and St. Francis (N.Y.)... The host Explorers went 2-2 last weekend at the Temple Invitational, beating Rider and Lehigh.

Looking Back: The Greyhounds opened the 2007 season with a 2-2 record at the North Carolina Central Tournament. Loyola turned in three-game victories over Norfolk State and South Carolina State, but dropped a four-game match to North Carolina State and a five-game thriller to Campbell. Freshman outside hitter Nina Camaioni put up solid numbers in her first collegiate competition, registering 44 kills and 46 digs in the four matches. Sophomore outside hitter Anastasia Collins was right behind Camaioni with 39 kills, while fellow sophomore middle hitter Karlee Woodward had 31 and a team-high 13 total blocks.

Head Coach Kristina Hernandez: In her four season at Loyola, Hernandez has compiled a 29-71 record... A 2003 graduate of North Carolina A&T, Hernandez remains one of the youngest coaches at the NCAA Division I level and has been very active in coaching at the national levels... She was the coach of the USA Youth National A2 team during the summer of 2007 that competed at the High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla... Hernandez has also served as the MAAC representative to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Head Coaches Committee.
