Aug. 24 - Greyhounds vs. Campbell, 5 p.m.
Aug. 25 - Greyhounds vs. Norfolk State, 9 a.m.
Aug. 25 - Greyhounds vs. North Carolina State, 1 p.m.
Aug. 25 - Greyhounds vs. South Carolina State, 5 p.m.

For Starters: Loyola opens its 2007 season August 24 at the North Carolina Central Tournament in Durham, N.C... The Greyhounds play four neutral site contests at the event, beginning with a 5 p.m. match on the 24th against Campbell University... Loyola then plays three matches on the 25th against Norfolk State (9 a.m.), North Carolina State (1 p.m.) and South Carolina State (5 p.m.)... The competition will be the start of three straight weekends of tournament play for the Greyhounds.

The Opponents: This weekend's tournament will also be the first action of the year for Loyola's foes. Campbell posted a 13-17 overall record in 2006 and was 2-7 in the Atlantic Sun conference. Junior middle hitter Femi Alabi is a preseason All-Conference pick in the Atlantic Sun after finishing last season with a team-high 368 kills... Norfolk State was 6-21 overall, 0-10 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Outside hitter Yolanda Roberts, a junior, led the Spartans with 45 aces last season and leads all returners with a 2.34 kills per game mark... North Carolina State finished 2-29, 0-22 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Ten freshmen dot the Wolfpack's roster, including opposite Lauren Zaniboni who posted a match-high 11 kills in the team's Red-White scrimmage... South Carolina State went 12-20, 2-8 in the MEAC. Senior middle blocker Monique Walker led the Bulldogs, who are picked to finish eighth in the MEAC this year, with 309 kills and 209 digs last season.

Looking Back: The Greyhounds finished the 2006 season with a 10-26 overall record, 7-11 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action, and finished sixth at the MAAC Championships... Senior Blair Snyder closed her career at Evergreen as the team leader in kills (393) and digs (466)... Chrissey Cruz posted a solid freshman campaign, leading the squad with 41 aces and 1,186 set assists. She picked up MAAC All-Tournament honors after dishing out 160 assists in Loyola's three matches... Karlee Woodward also put up good numbers in her first season, finishing second on the team with 346 kills, while leading the Greyhounds with 155 total blocks... Rachel Schillinger and Maddie Fuller, both sophomores in 2006, added 291 and 145 kills, respectively. Schillinger also had 105 total blocks... Kimi Gabriel was one of the team's top defensive players as a freshman, finishing second on the team with 399 digs, while fellow freshman Nicole Scimeme was third with 323.

Head Coach Kristina Hernandez: Beginning her four season at Loyola, Hernandez has compiled a 27-69 record... A 2003 graduate of North Carolina A&T, Hernandez remains one of the youngest coaches at the NCAA Division I level and has been very active in coaching at the national levels... She was the coach of the USA Youth National A2 team during the summer of 2007 that competed at the High Performance Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla... Hernandez has also served as the MAAC representative to the American Volleyball Coaches Association Head Coaches Committee.
