Loyola Picked Fifth in MAAC Preseason Volleyball Poll

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola sophomore outside hitter Nina Camaioni (Williamstown, N.J./Williamstown High School) was named to the Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Team today by a vote of the league's coaches, while her team was picked to finish fifth in the league.

Camaioni was named the 2007 MAAC Rookie of the Year and earned All-MAAC Second Team honors after leading the Greyhounds with 441 kills in her first season of collegiate competition.

She was second on the team with 520 digs, and she posted 23 double-doubles with 10 or more kills and digs in a match. Camaioni had 15 or more kills on 10 occasions and set a Loyola single-match record with 36 digs in a September 23 contest against Marist.

As a team, the Greyhounds are coming off one of their best seasons in the MAAC. They finished the 2007 campaign with a 22-12 record, 13-5 in conference competition. Loyola finished third in the MAAC and advanced to the MAAC Semifinals.

Siena was picked to win the conference with 98 of a possible 100 points. Fairfield was tabbed to place second with 83, followed by Iona, 78, and Canisius, 66.

Loyola's 60 points slotted them for fifth, followed by Marist with 56. Manhattan was tabbed seventh with 32 points, while Niagara and Saint Peter's were tied for eighth with 29. Rider rounds out the conference in 10th with 19 points.

Joining Camaioni on the Preseason All-MAAC Team are Siena's Burgandy McCurty, Aubrey Bobo and April London, Fairfield's Katie Mann, Marist's Alexandra Schultze and Iona's Allison Nieters.

The Greyhounds open the 2008 season on August 29 at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational against Lehigh.
