Volleyball Picked Seventh By MAAC Coaches

EDISON, N.J. - Loyola's volleyball team was selected to finish seventh in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the upcoming season in a poll of the league's coaches released today.

The Greyhounds received 37 points, just three behind Niagara in the No. 6 spot.

Fairfield and Siena each received 93 points and enter the season as co-favorites, while Canisius and Iona tied for third with 72 points. Marist was fifth with 65 points.

Saint Peter's, Manhattan and Rider rounded out the poll in eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.

The Greyhounds finished the 2008 season with an 8-25 record, tying for eighth in the conference with a 4-14 MAAC record.

Junior outside hitter Nina Camaioni returns for Loyola after leading the Greyhounds with 307 kiills last season. She also recorded 465 digs, just behind Brittany Born's team-leading 483 digs.

Senior Karlee Woodward also is back for the Greyhounds after leading the MAAC in blocks per set with a 1.09 average. Senior Kristen Muscarella finished fourth in the conference in assists per set (9.21) and returns, too.

Loyola opens the 2009 season with four matches at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Tournament in the Pittsburgh area, Friday and Saturday, August 28-29, 2009.
