BALTIMORE, Md. - The Loyola College volleyball team has released its 2006 schedule, which features several regional and national opponents. The 2006 season will begin on August 25 at TCU.
The Greyhounds' 33-match schedule includes three tournaments, including the Chesapeake Challenge, which will be hosted by Loyola and Navy. The two schools will host matches in the two-site tournament on Friday, September 8 while the Greyhounds will serve as host for the final day of competition on Saturday, September 9. It will mark the conclusion of three straight tournament weekends to open the season for the Greyhounds, who will also take part in tournaments at TCU and George Washington University.
Loyola will also face several local opponents during its non-conference schedule. The Greyhounds will face Morgan State on September 5 at Hill Field House while competing at Towson two weeks later. Last season, Loyola earned a 2-3 record against Baltimore-area opponents. The Greyhounds will also face Navy on October 17 in Annapolis.
The Greyhounds will face each of their nine Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponents twice during the 2006 season as the conference has moved to a "double round-robin" schedule. All 10 conference teams will meet at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida for the 2006 MAAC Volleyball Championships, which will take place from November 15-19. The conference champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
