Volleyball Continues Tri-Captain Theme in `10

May 27, 2010

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Loyola women's volleyball team announced the selection of the 2010 team captains this week. Voted by their teammates as the leaders for the upcoming season are seniors Brittany Born and Nina Camaioni and sophomore Janet Pressler.

The team chose to continue last year's trend of choosing three captains. Born, a senior libero, will serve as a team captain for the second season in a row, as she served last year with Kristen Muscarella and Nicole Scimeme.

Born leads with a high-energy style. Vocal and enthusiastic, she was a key player in the mentoring of the six freshmen from last season. With the addition of nine rookies arriving at Evergreen this season, Born's veteran leadership abilities will truly be invaluable.

Pressler, much like Born, is a vocal leader. The outside hitter's constant words of encouragement were heard throughout every set of every match, whether she was on the court or off. Although just a sophomore, Pressler's maturity was recognized early on and undoubtedly stemmed from the influence of her father, the current head men's lacrosse coach at Bryant University and his more than 20 years of head coaching experience.

Camaioni's leadership style is much quieter the styles of Born and Pressler. The senior outside hitter is the Greyhounds' biggest contributor on the court, having led the team for the past three seasons in kills and kills per set, and her intangibles influence those around her.

The common factor between the three captains is their ability to lead by example both on the court and off. All three are tireless workers and dedicated students, with Born and Camaioni both earning multiple MAAC All-Academic awards and Camaioni being named Academic All-District II last season.

The `Hounds will kick off the season Aug. 27, in Toledo, Ohio, against Michigan, Binghamton and the host Rockets in the two-day University of Toledo tournament.
