BALTIMORE - Loyola's volleyball team will host a six-team spring tournament on April 5, and the Greyhounds will play in three other events during the spring, Head Coach Kristina Hernandez announced today.
The Greyhounds, who are coming off one of their best seasons in school history, will open competition on Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament. The event will be hosted by Towson University, and all proceeds will benefit the Claudia Mayer Breast Cancer Foundation.
Loyola hosts the Greyhounds Spring Classic on Saturday, April 5, in Reitz Arena. Teams from Georgetown, UMBC, Maryland, Towson and the U.S. Naval Academy will participate in the all day event.
The Greyhounds will then close their spring schedule by participating in eight-team tournaments on Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, at Navy and Georgetown, respectively.
Loyola finished the 2008 season with a 22-12 overall record, 13-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Greyhounds placed third in the MAAC during the regular-season and reached the semifinals of the MAAC Championships.
