The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team received National Letters of Intent from four student athletes who will join the Greyhounds for the 2011 season, Head Coach Scott Pennewill announced today.
Lauren Anderson (Lakeland, Fla./Lakeland), Tina Catanach (Plant, Fla./Plant), Lauren Arnold (Moline, Ill./Moline) and Melinda Maloney (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) will be part of Loyola's class of 2015.
Here are some of Head Coach Scott Pennewill's thoughts on the signees:
Lauren Anderson, 5-9, Setter: "We are real pleased to be bringing in another fast, accomplished setter to add to already accomplished (Aubrey Kirven) setter in the program currently. Lauren is going to be able to create a depth at the setter position that will be very beneficial to the future success of the team and the program."
Lauren Arnold, 5-11, Outside Hitter: "Lauren Arnold, we think, is going to be that diamond in the rough kind of player. Right now her team is doing real well and has been recognized nationally, and Lauren has been very integral in that success. She is another outside hitter with solid ball control and has a very good arm swing."
Tina Catanach, 5-11, Outside Hitter: "Tina comes from a high school program that is a five-time state champion and possesses very solid ball control and offensive skills that will help fill the needs that will be leaving in this year's graduating class."
Melinda Maloney, 6-2, Middle Blocker: "She has been one of the fastest progressing players in the last year as far as being a dominate middle. She is a very good blocking middle and is able to offensively run all the fast tempo play sets."
