Lawrenceville, N.J. - Senior Christina Greenup had 22 kills and helped the Loyola's women's volleyball team to a victory over Rider on Sunday, 23-25, 19-25, 25-18, 29-27, and 17-19 in the final match of the season.
Loyola (8-25, 4-13 MAAC) played a tough defensive game with five players recording digs in the double digits, with sophomores Nina Camaioni leading the way with 29 and Brittany Born following with 26 digs.
Rider (9-19, 2-16 MAAC) started the first set doing all the right things on offense to go up 10-4 early. Loyola followed with a six point run to tie from a Camaioni service ace and kills from Greenup and senior Rachel Schillinger. Points were then traded and errors handed to both teams, before Greenup handed the Broncs a kill to seal the set victory 25-23.
In the second set, Rider scored the first six points before Loyola answered with an 11-3 run from a Stasia Collins kill to hold the Broncs to a 0.00 hitting percentage from 12 kills on 12 errors. The Greyhounds finished the set with 10 kills on just four errors and came away with the 25-19 victory.
The Broncs picked up the pace in the third set hitting .317 percent with 17 kills on four errors. Rider's Kristy Love had three service aces in a row taking a 20-11 advantage over Loyola. Collins then delivered two kills and two aces of her own to come back with five but Rider closed out the set with kills from Katelyn Thompson for the win.
Loyola hit .207 in the fourth set from 17 kills on just five errors, but Rider came away with one extra kill to win the set 29-27. There were 17 tie scores and six lead changes.
In the deciding set, Loyola had an early lead at 5-1 thanks to seniors Greenup and Samantha Greenbaum behind the service line. Rider then bounced back from an Alex Chapla kill and tied everything up at 10 all. Each team took shots to break seven ties and four lead changes before a Camaioni kill and two Rider errors gave the Greyhounds the set and match victories.
