Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Despite a 17 kill performance from sophomore Maddie Fuller, the Loyola College volleyball team fell to Canisius, 3-1, Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament. The Griffs won games one and two by scores of 30-24 and 30-23. The Greyhounds took game three 30-25 but Canisius came back and won game four 30-23. Loyola falls to 9-25 overall on the season while the Griffs improve to 21-9.
Fuller led the `Hounds with 17 kills while adding 13 digs and three blocks. Sophomore Rachel Schillinger added 11 kills and four blocks and freshman Karlee Woodward tallied 10 kills and four blocks. Freshman Nicole Scimeme recorded a team-high 20 digs while senior Blair Snyder and freshman Anastasia Collins each added 16. Snyder also added nine kills and three blocks. Freshman Chrissey Cruz dished out 47 setter assists and 13 digs.
For Canisius, Jen Smith recorded 17 kills and 22 digs. Leigh Launhardt added 15 kills and six blocks. Mary Boller recorded 11 kills and nine blocks while Aislinn Hayes tallied 10 kills, 14 digs and seven blocks. MAAC Defensive Player of the Year Jess Stackhouse registered a game-high 28 digs. Setter Brittany Gerde recorded 48 assists.
The Greyhounds will play in the consolation round tomorrow at 1:30. Their opponent will not be decided until 11:00 tomorrow.
