Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Loyola College volleyball team came back from a two game deficit to defeat Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opponent Marist, 3-2 Saturday night at the McCann Center. Game scores where 24-30, 2514-30, 30-25, 30-26 and 15-8. The Greyhounds improve to 10-17 overall and 3-5 in conference play while the Red Foxes' finish the 2004 season with a 12-16 overall record and a 2-7 mark in the MAAC. Loyola's 10 wins this season double the win total from 2003.
The Red Foxes cruised to wins in games one and two, hitting .462 and .442 as a team, respectively. Jaime Kenworthy paced Marist in game one with nine kills on .667 hitting to give Marist the 30-24 win. It was more of the same for Kenworthy and the Red Foxes in game two, as she and Amy Gillespie turned up the heat for a 30-25 win.
In games three and four, Loyola's Christina Greenup and Becky Corb took matters into their own hands, powering their team to 30-25 and 30-26 wins, respectively. As a team, Loyola posted hitting percentages of .354 and .400 in games three and four, respectively. The Greyhounds took game five more convincingly with a 15-8 victory.
Greenup and Corb finished the game with a team high of 24 kills each. They were followed by Blair Snyder with 12 kills, a solo block and two block assists. Snyder tallied a .400 hitting percentage for a team high. Christine Lopez also added nine kills and two block assists. Krystal Biegaj recorded 60 assists and Jamie Arndt led three Greyhounds in double digit digs with 23.
Kenworthy hammered home a total of 25 kills on the night, a new career high along with two service aces for Marist. She was followed by Gillespie with a career-high 22 kills, 15 digs and two solo blocks to lead Marist.
The Greyhounds will wrap-up their 2004 schedule Sunday as they face Siena at 2:00.
