Volleyball Earns Highest MAAC Championships Seed Since 1997 With Win At Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Loyola's volleyball team secured the No. 3 seed in next weekend's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships with a 30-25, 30-23, 30-21, win at Rider University on Saturday afternoon.

The third seed is the highest Loyola (21-11 overall, 12-5 MAAC) has been entering the MAAC Championships since the 1997 season when it was also the No. 3 team. The Greyhounds will play the second seed, eight Fairfield or Siena, on Sunday, November 18, in the MAAC Semifinals. The Championships will be played at Fairfield.

Loyola strugged in the first game, hitting just .111, with 11 kills and seven errors. Rider (2-26, 0-18) pulled to within one, 22-21, on a Brittany Hayes kill, but Loyola responded with a three-point run to take command of the game.

The third game was tight, there were 11 tie scores in the final frame, until Loyola opened up a three-point lead, 18-15. Rider kept the score close, pulling within two, 22-20, but Loyola scored eight of the lsat nine points of the match to close the game.

Karlee Woodward led all players with 11 kills. She hit .476 with only one error in 21 attempts. Rachel Schillinger had nine kills without an error and hit .409 for the match.

Brittany Born led all players with 14 digs. Loyola registered 11 total blocks, led by Schillinger's six.

The Greyhounds wrap-up their regular-season with a 6 p.m. match on Saturday, November 11, at home versus Iona.
