BALTIMORE - Colgate University had 11 service aces and accrued just six hitting errors Sunday afternoon, beating Loyola University Maryland volleyball in three, 25-9, 25-17, 25-20, in Patriot League action.
Colgate (11-15 overall, 9-6 Patriot League led, 5-3, in the first set after a Katie Stansbury kill for sideout that sent Molly Smith back to serve. Smith served six-straight points, four coming on aces. She used a combination of floaters to record three aces in a row, and her final gave the Raiders an 11-3 advantage.
In addition to its strong serving, Colgate’s blocking game was solid. The Raiders finished with nine total blocks, and Jaelah Hutchison was a part of each. She finished with a career-high nine total blocks, four of the solo variety.
Kathleen Harris and Katie Stebbins led Colgate with eight kills each, while Harris and Madison McAndrews each had 10 digs. Smith finished with five aces, and Jackie Macy added three in addition to six digs and 19 assists.
The Greyhounds (6-23, 1-13) close their 2015 season with a pair of games next weekend. They first face American University on the Eagles’ home court in Washington, D.C., on Friday, Nov. 13, before hosting the U.S. Naval Academy on Saturday afternoon in Reitz Arena.
