Sophomore Nina Camaioni had six kills in the first set, helping Loyola (7-23, 3-12 MAAC) to keep the lead early, but after a few Greyhound errors and two kills from sophomore Lacey Johnson, Rider (9-16, 2-13 MAAC) took the lead at 7-6 and pushed on to win the set with a .485 hitting percentage.
The offensive errors continued in the second set for Loyola, forcing Coach Scott Pennewill to call a timeout with the Greyhounds down 12-8. Rider's offense continued to attack, until junior Stasia Collins stepped up to the service line to lead the Greyhounds on a 10-2 run to tie the match at 22-22. The errors now fell on Rider, and with a kill from senior Christina Greenup, the `Hounds closed the set 26-24.
Failing to seize the momentum from set two, the Greyhounds fell 16-10 in the middle third set before Collins and Woodward stepped up on defense with key blocks to force more Rider errors. Collins posted four kills to push the Greyhounds in another huge offensive run. Loyola scored 13 of the next 16 points and finished the set 25-21.
In final set, the Greyhounds maintained a steady lead. Senior Rachel Schillinger had four kills to put Loyola ahead 18-10 in the middle of the fourth. Loyola again held the Broncs to low hitting percentage at .051 and finished the match with a kill from Woodward, set by junior Kristen Muscarella, to close out with a 25-23 victory.
