BALTIMORE - Loyola's volleyball team dropped a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match to Saint Peter's by a score of 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Reitz Arena in what was the Greyhounds' second-to-last match of the season.
The Peahens bolted to a quick lead by taking Games One and Two 30-19 and 30-21, respectively. Although Loyola kept things close in Game Three by taking an early lead and tying the stanza at 25-25, Saint Peter's proved too strong and prevailed with a 30-26 victory to clinch the match.
Loyola was led by freshman Susanna Leffers, who tallied 14 kills and a match-high 12 digs, and Becky Corb, who recorded nine kills. Senior Megan Maguire posted 11 digs to add to her MAAC-leading total in that category, while Liz Beauregard dished out 28 assists.
St. Peter's received a match-high 17 kills from rookie Serra Soylu and 14 kills from Tzvetomila Dotcheva as the Peahens racked up an impressive .364 team hitting percentage.
Loyola's record falls to 4-24 overall and 2-6 in the MAAC, while Saint Peter's record improves to 8-20 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
The Greyhounds return to action tomorrow when they will wecome Manhattan to Reitz Arena for another MAAC showdown and Loyola's final match of the season at 1 p.m. Before the contest, the Greyhounds will honor seniors Megan Maguire and Katie Pruitt for their efforts over the past four years as the two will be playing in their last collegiate match.
