New Rochelle, N.Y. - The Loyola University Maryland women's volleyball team lost to Iona College, 3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-22), in New Rochelle, N.Y., tonight. The Greyhounds (13-16, 7-8 MAAC) will be back in action Sunday to face Fairfield at 2 p.m.
Senior Nina Camaioni had six kills and 16 digs for the match. Sophomore Katie Dircks added four kills and 13 digs and Aubrey Kirven contributed with three kills and 18 assists.
Colleen Genett lead the way for Iona (16-9, 10-5 MAAC) with 15 kills and a .667 hitting percentage for the match. Alyssa Erickson added 30 assists.
With the score tied at 10 in the first set, Iona took a two point lead and never looked back. Loyola came within one at 12-13 with a serving error by the Gaels. The Greyhound would only answer with five more points before Iona closed the set at 25-17. Loyola had a -0.03 hitting percentage to the Gaels .175.
In the second set, Iona took a four point lead before the Greyhounds scored. After a seven point run by the Gaels Loyola finally scored with a kill by Nina Camaioni. Iona had a nine point lead at 16-7 and the lead kept growing. The Greyhounds would only score two more points before the Gaels closed the set at 25-9. Loyola had a -.11 hitting percentage to the Gaels .393.
Iona took an early five point lead in the third set before the Greyhounds scored with a kill by Jac Bullock. Loyola tied the set up with a kill by Aubrey Kirven. The score was tied at 21 before the Gaels took the lead. The closest the Greyhounds came to answer was at 23-22 with a kill by Kirven but Iona would answer with two more points to close the set and the match. Loyola had a .024 hitting percentage to Iona .237.
