Fairfield Hits Way Past Volleyball In Three

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University hit .398 with just nine errors in 88 swings, and the Stags defeated the visiting Loyola University Maryland volleyball team, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21, on Sunday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Four Fairfield players had eight or more kills, led by Brianna Dixon's match-high 12. Marilyn Peizer added nine, while Caitlyn Stapleton and Hayley Moyer each had eight. Overall, the Stags (18-8 overall, 13-3 MAAC) had 44 kills.

Loyola (13-13, 6-9) hung tough in the third set, looking to push the match to a fourth. The Greyhounds went ahead 14-13 on a Janet Pressler service ace, but Fairfield scored the next three points to lead for the rest of the match.

Faye Lukas led the Greyhounds with nine kills, and Jac Bullock had six while hitting .455. Bullock's streak of matches with 10 or more kills, however, was snapped at 14.

Nicole Sarby had a career-high 29 assists for the Greyhounds in the match.

Loyola returns to Reitz Arena for its final two matches of the 2012 season, starting with a 2 o'clock date with Marist College on Saturday, November 10.
