Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Senior Christina Greenup posted 13 kills and nine digs while sophomore Brittany Born added a match-high 24 digs, but Loyola couldn't overcome a 0.084 hitting percentage and fell in four sets at Marist on Saturday, 25-23, 25-27, 25-20 and 25-17 in MAAC action.
Junior setter Kristen Muscarella paced a Greyhounds' offense with 33 of the team's 38 assists. After hitting a season-high .305 in their last win over Manhattan, Loyola (6-22 overall, 2-11 MAAC) hit just 0.084 on 40 kills and 27 errors Saturday.
The Loyola defense limited the Red Foxes to a 0.162 hitting percentage (52 kills, 28 errors), but Dawn Jan dished out a game-high 43 assists and hit .375 to lead the Marist attack.
After seeing leads of 19-12 and 20-15 slip away in the first set, Loyola drew even in the second. Trailing 14-10, the Greyhounds scored five of the next six points-including kills by Muscarella and Greenup- to tie, 15-15. The Greyhounds again went down 21-17, but three consecutive Marist (14-13 overall, 9-5 MAAC) errors and a service ace by Karlee Woodward tied the match at 21 apiece. With the teams knotted at 25 apiece later in the match, a Marist attack error and a kill by Greenup gave the `Hounds the set, 27-25.
Muscarella distributed nine assists in the third set, but the Greyhounds couldn't overcome four attack errors and three service errors in the frame.
The team continues its New York roadtrip on Sunday at Siena at 1 o'clock p.m.
