NEW ROCHELLE, NY - Loyola's volleyball team received 29 kills from Becky Corb and a solid team defensive effort en route to upsetting Iona 3-2 on Halloween night in the suburbs of New York City.
"Tonight's win was just a really great team effort," said Loyola assistant coach Molly McCarthy. "The team played great defense and had an excellent hitting percentage."
Iona struck first with a 30-23 Game One win, but Loyola answered with a 30-25 win in Game Two to even things at one game apiece. The Gaels edged the 'Hounds in Game Three by a score of 30-28, but Loyola came back with a 30-21 win in Game Four to force a deciding Game Five, which coach Jen Briggs' squad won 15-7 to steal a match from one of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's (MAAC) top teams.
Becky Corb was a major contributor to the Greyhounds' .249 hitting percentage as she recorded 29 kills for a .347 hitting percentage. Susanna Leffers added 16 kills to Loyola's effort while senior libero Megan Maguire led the defensive campaign with 20 digs.
Loyola improved to 4-22 overall and 2-4 in the MAAC with the win.
