NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Senior outside hitter Becky Corb recorded a match-high 16 kills and added nine digs but the Greyhound volleyball team (7-19, 1-4) was unable to overcome a strong Iona College (10-15, 5-0) squad as the league-leading Gaels swept Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match at the Mulchay Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Gaels, who remained perfect in the conference with a 5-0 mark, earned the victory with scores of 30-25, 30-25 and 31-29. With the loss, Loyola dropped its second straight match overall and fourth straight MAAC match.
Corb was one of two Greyhounds to record double-digit kills in the match as junior Blair Snyder added 11 kills with just three attack errors. Sophomore Christina Greenup also added seven kills in the loss for Loyola, which hit .227 in the match.
Miki Hogg, who entered the match as the conference leader in kills per game, recorded a team-high 15 kills and a .448 hitting percentage to lead the Gaels. She also had three solo blocks and a pair of block assists. Megan Dailey recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs while Chelsea White had a match-high 28 digs in the victory for Iona.
There were 39 ties and 17 lead changes in the match, including 16 ties and seven lead changes in the third game.
The Greyhounds, who dropped their second straight road match, return to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Lehigh University to face the Mountain Hawks at 7:00 p.m. After wrapping up their three-match road trip over the weekend, the Greyhounds begin a three-match homestand on Saturday against Siena at 12:00 p.m.
