Strong Hitting Leads Army West Point Over Volleyball

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The U.S. Military Academy posted 46 kills and hit .424 en route to a three-set win over Loyola University Maryland, 25-13, 25-20, 25-17, Friday night in Patriot League action.

Vanessa Wesley and Nicole Perri had 11 and 10 kills, respectively to lead the Black Knights (18-6 overall, 10-1 Patriot League). Wesley hit .917 while registering his 11 kills in just 12 swings without an error.

The Greyhounds (6-20, 1-10) were within a point in the first set, trailing 9-8 after a Stacey Kazalas kill, but Army West Point scored 10 of the next 12 points to take control of the set.

Loyola then found itself in a 10-point hole, 19-9, after a Wesley kill in the second set, but the Greyhounds went on a 9-2 run to close within three, 21-18, after a Kazalas kill.

Kazalas led Loyola with seven kills, while Haley Puddy added six. Puddy also had four total blocks to lead the Greyhounds.

Loyola is back in action Saturday evening when it takes on College of the Holy Cross in a 6 p.m. match.
