BALTIMORE - Despite a combined 59 kills from Becky Corb and Susanna Leffers and 61 assists from Krystal Biegaj, Loyola's volleyball team for the second consecutive day dropped a heartbreaking Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match -- this time to Siena by a score of 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Reitz Arena.
Similar to Loyola's 3-2 loss last night against Marist, this contest was a back and forth battle throughout between two very evenly matched squads.
Loyola escaped Game One with a 30-28 win, but Siena responded in Game Two with a 30-26 victory to knot the match at one game apiece. In Game Three, Loyola took control with a four-point run late in the match and held on to win 30-24 to take the lead 2-1. However, just like the visiting Red Foxes managed to do last night, the visiting Saints were able to pull off Games Four and Five to clinch the match.
Siena took an 11-1 lead to start Game Four before Loyola chipped away to finally tie the score at 28, only to see the Saints capture the next two points and the game to force a deciding Game Five, which Siena won 15-12.
The Saints were led by Lauren Weber (24 kills, 14 digs), Christie Gustafson (20 kills, 8 digs), Amy Christensen (14 kills, 5 digs), and Katie Borrett (64 assists, 16 digs).
Loyola falls to 3-22 overall and 1-4 in the MAAC with the loss while Siena improves to 5-19 and 2-5 in the MAAC.
The Greyhounds return to action on Friday, October 31st at 8 p.m. for a Halloween-night MAAC showdown versus Iona in New Rochelle, NY.
