BALTIMORE - Loyola's volleyball team fell to Marist 3-2 in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest on Saturday night at Reitz Arena before a wild crowd of 245 that was treated to one of the most exciting Loyola volleyball matches in recent Greyhound memory.
Marist barely won Game One 30-28 to take a 1-0 lead, but Loyola staged comebacks in Game Two and Three to grab 30-28 victories in both stanzas and take control at 2-1. However, the Red Foxes played well in Game Four and won 30-22 to force a deciding Game Five that was about as intense a Game Five as one could ever witness. Both squads virtually traded point-for-point throughout the game until Marist finally managed to steal consecutive points Nos. 18 and 19 to seal the decider, 19-17 and leave Baltimore with a conference win to improve its MAAC record to 4-3 and its overall record to 12-19.
Loyola fell to 1-3 in the MAAC with the loss and 3-21 overall.
The Greyhounds take the court again tomorrow for another MAAC match when they host Siena at 1 p.m. at Reitz Arena.
