POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Loyola University Maryland's Katie Dircks had a season-high 17 digs, but the Greyhounds lost in four to Marist College, 25-17, 21-25, 25-13, 25-15, on Saturday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
After winning the first set, the Red Foxes went up by three early in the second before Loyola took its first lead since 2-1 in the first set.
Loyola never led the second set by more than two points before Marist tied it, 18-18, on a block by Leann Harridsleff and Marissa Gilbert. The Greyhounds responded by reeling off four points in a row, two on Tina Catanach kills and the other on a pair of Marist attack errors.
Catanach's second kill put Loyola up, 22-18, and after a Marist kill, the Greyhounds scored on a Catanach solo block and a bad set by Marist's Audra Brady. The Red Foxes would tally two more points, but Lukas and Mindy Maloney locked up a block to close the set, 25-21, in the Greyhounds' favor.
Marist, however, would not trail form that point forward in the match, closing out the MAAC contest in four.
Catanach had nine kills for Loyola, and Maloney added seven. Joanna Foss led Marist with 11.
The Greyhounds are back in action on Sunday at 2 o'clock when they take on Siena in Loudonville, N.Y.
