PHILADELPHIA, PA - Loyola's volleyball team received 61 assists from Krystal Biegaj and a combined 55 kills from Becky Corb and Susanna Leffers en route to defeating LaSalle 3-1 on Wednesday night in the Greyhounds' final non-conference regular season match of 2003 at the Tom Gola Center.
The Greyhounds jumped ahead early, taking Game One 30-23 only to have LaSalle roar back with a 30-18 win in Game Two. However, head coach Jen Briggs' squad regrouped and scrapped out two down-to-the-wire games to clinch the match, winning Game Three 30-28 and winning Game Four, 32-30.
"Tonight's win was just a great all-around team effort and everyone is extremely happy with the win over a tough LaSalle team," said Loyola assistant Molly McCarthy, whose team managed to defeat the Atlantic-10's Explorers for the second consecutive year.
Corb and Leffers were the primary recipients of Biegaj's 61 assists as Corb recorded 23 kills and Leffers nailed down 22 kills.
The victory gives Loyola some much needed momentum as the Greyhounds enter the brunt of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) schedule over the next couple of weeks, beginning this weekend when they welcome Marist and Siena to Reitz Arena on Saturday and Sunday.
Tonight's win improves the 'Hounds' record to 3-20 overall, while Loyola remains at 1-2 in the MAAC.
