NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - Niagara University put together a solid defensive match, and the Purple Eagles remained undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, defeating Loyola University Maryland, 25-17, 25-14, 25-21, on Saturday afternoon.
The Purple Eagles (14-7 overall, 8-0 MAAC) had nine total blocks and 35 digs, holding the Greyhounds (6-15, 3-5) to their lowest hitting percentage (-.023) of the season.
Hannah Hedrick had 11 kills and 11 digs for Niagara, while Kathy Bibler posted seven kills without an error. Amanda Wilken led the Purple Eagles with five total blocks, while Nicole Bayer and Kari Honomichl each were in on four.
Loyola had a slim, one-point lead, 9-8, in the early-going of the first set when Faye Lukas had a kill, but Niagara scored four in a row to tie and take the lead for good in the set.
Loyola continues MAAC action in Buffalo on Sunday when it plays at Canisius Sunday at 2 o'clock.
