Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College volleyball team defeated Niagara Saturday afternoon in Reitz Arena in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match-up. The Greyhounds improved to 6-16 on the season and even at 4-4 in MAAC play while the Purple Eagles fell to 3-14 overall and 1-9 in league action.
Loyola won games one and two by a score of 30-25 while the Purple Eagles took game three 30-24. The `Hounds got the victory with a 30-21 score in game four.
Sophomore Rachel Schillinger and freshman Karlee Woodward each recorded 15 kills to lead Loyola. Woodward's hitting percentage was .419 while Schillinger's was .379. Senior Blair Snyder recorded 12 kills while freshman Nicole Scimeme tallied eight.
Woodward led the `Hounds in blocks with six block assists while Snyder added five block assists.
For Niagara, Annie Wachob recorded a game-high 16 kills. She was followed by Holly Sahner with 14 and Raelean Rush with 11. Setter Mallory Boron was credited with 54 assists. Rush also tallied a game-high 24 digs while Jessica Piscitelli added 17 and Sara Mancini had 14. Natalie Crawford recorded four block assists for Niagara.
The Greyhounds are back in action in Reitz Arena Sunday, October 15 when they host Canisius at 2:00.
