WORCESTER, Mass. - College of the Holy Cross overcame a third-set lead by visiting Loyola University Maryland Friday night to sweep the Greyhounds in Patriot League play, 25-15, 25-23, 25-20.
Loyola led 11-8 and was in position to force a fourth set after a Molly Cichosz kill, but Holy Cross sided out on a Alicia Swearingen kill to start a 4-0 run.
A Cichosz kill tied the score at 12-all for Loyola, and Mindy Maloney and Kelly McShea locked up a block to give the Greyhounds a 13-12 lead, but Holy Cross scored two in a row, and Loyola would be tied or trail the rest of the match.
Jane Lukas finished with a match-high 14 kills for the Greyhounds, and Cichosz added 10. Maloney totaled seven kills without an error in 17 attempts. Katie McKernan led Holy Cross with 11 kills, while Dana Weston had nine.
The Greyhounds continue their Patriot League road trip on Saturday with a 7 o'clock at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.
