JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Nina Camaioni had one of her strongest games of the season Saturday afternoon in her home state of New Jersey. The outside hitter did more than her fair share, posting 18 kills, .361 hitting, 12 digs, three blocks and an ace en route to a 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-23) sweep of Saint Peter's (5-11 overall, 2-3 MAAC).
Camaioni's double-double was her eighth of the season and her fourth straight.
Katie Dircks tallied double digits in two categories as well with 10 kills and 10 digs. Aubrey Kirven had 40 assists, her highest total in three-game set this season. The Greyhounds hit .327 on the match while holding the Peahens to a .258 clip.
With the win, the Greyhounds (9-11, 4-1) share the lead in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with Fairfield and have now surpassed last year's win total.
Loyola came from behind in the first set to win, 27-25. The Greyhounds were down, 10-5, when the Peahens began to falter. The Greyhounds took advantage of the sideouts and began to climb back from its deficit.
Down 21-14, it looked as though Saint Peter's was pulling away again, but after a timeout, the Greyhounds came back to take seven of the next eight points, coming within one point of a tie.
After a Saint Peter's timeout, Camaioni railed off two straight kills to take a 23-22 lead. Stephanie Phillips tied the game with a kill to make the score 25-25, but Camaioni and Janet Pressler tallied back-to-back kills for the set win.
Camaioni pounded Saint Peter's in the second set, nailing the Peahens with nine kills, as Loyola did not trail in the frame.
In the third set, Saint Peter's took an early lead, but the Greyhounds came back to tie and take a lead. Saint Peter's kept it close but solid defense held the them off for the 25-23 win and the 3-0 sweep.
Loyola continues their conference road trip Sunday at Manhattan. The Jaspers are currently 1-4 in the MAAC.
