NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Loyola College used a strong sideout percentage and a season-high 15 total blocks to defeat host Iona College, 30-21, 30-26, 25-30, 30-19, on Sunday afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match.
In the three games the Greyhounds (12-8 overall, 4-2 MAAC) were able to sideout over 60-percent of the time when the Gales (6-12, 4-2) had the serve.
Loyola also had its best blocking performance of the season in the match. The Greyhounds's two middle blockers, Karlee Woodard and Rachel Schillinger, had eight and six total blocks, respectively. Woodward's eight blocks were the most by a Loyola player this season.
Camaioni set a career-high with 19 kills in the match. She was one of three Loyola players to have a .290 or higher hitting percentage against the Gaels.
Schillinger put away 12 kills on 22 swings without an error for a .545 hitting percentage, while Woodward notched 11 kills on 23 attempts with two errors for a .391 mark. Camaioni took 41 swings and had seven errors for a .293 percentage. Greenup added 14 kills for the Greyhounds.
Iona led 12-9 in the first game before a Schillinger kill gave Loyola the serve and pulled the Greyhounds within two. Loyola took the lead, 15-14, on a Camaioni kill and went up by four, 19-15, on a Woodward kill.
In the second match, Kendall Paulus tied the score at 23-23, but Greenup put away two kills to give the Greyhounds a 25-23 lead. The Greyhounds scored five of the last eight points, aided by three Iona attack errors, to close out the match.
Kristin Allain led the Gaels with 11 kills, and Paulus had 10.
The Greyhounds play their final non-conference match of the season when they host Navy on Tuesday, October 2, at 7 p.m.
