BALTIMORE, MD - Sarah Miller and Liz Goubeaux combined for 41 kills as Towson defeated Loyola, 3-1, in women's volleyball Tuesday night at Reitz Arena. The Greyhounds fell to 1-15 on the season while the Tigers improved to 11-4.
Towson took Game One after a back and forth battle for much of the game until the Tigers finally took control at 25-23. April Hoffman earned a service ace as well as two kills in the Towson run to finish off Loyola, 30-23.
In Game Two, the Tigers dominated 30-16. Both teams played evenly with the Greyhounds taking an 11-10 lead before Towson evened things and pulled away as it tallied 17-team kills in the second stanza.
The Greyhouds refused to die easy as they took a lead in Game Three and never let it go en route to a 30-27 victory. Loyola earned as much as a nine point lead in that game. Towson closed out the match in Game Four however, with a 30-16 win.
Miller recorded a game-high 21 kills for Towson while Goubeaux was just one away with 20. Mary Clare Coghlan was credited with 50 assists as Hoffman tallied 20 defensive digs and 11 kills for the Tigers.
For Loyola, freshman Susanna Leffers continued to lead Loyola's offensive charge as she registered 16 kills and was followed by sophomore Becky Corb with 12. Krystal Biegaj tallied 32 assists while defensive specialist Megan Maguire recorded 10 digs.
The Greyhounds return to Reitz Arena Thursday, Oct. 2 to face another Baltimore-area opponent, UMBC. Match-time is set for 7:00.
