LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - A big day by Nina Camaioni helped pace Loyola to a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon in New Jersey. In her home state, Camaioni posted a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs while also adding a pair of blocks (one solo), helping to take Rider 3-1 (21-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-17).
After the Broncs (2-12 overall, 0-3 MAAC) ran away with the first set, the Greyhounds (7-10 overall, 2-1 MAAC) effectively put a stop to their run, dominating them in later sets. Loyola held Rider to just 20 kills in the last three sets, including a low mark of just two in the third set, limiting them to hitting marks of .130, .-200 and .000. Overall, Greyhound defense held Rider to just 39 kills on .095 hitting for the match.
Rider wasn't far behind in the second set, coming within just one point of tying. Kristy Love took off but her team couldn't keep up with her, and Loyola's lead held up for a 25-20 win.
Loyola jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth, before allowing a point to the Broncs after a timeout. With Rider anxious to take the match into a fifth set, the Broncs then went on a tear and gained a narrow one-point lead off strong hitting by Brittany Hayes, Stephanie Nagy and Briana Wallace.
With Rider leading 15-14, Loyola put one final end to the Broncs' comeback effort. The Greyhounds allowed just one more kill and sided out only one more time to hold Rider's score at 17 points. Loyola kept the Broncs' at bay to record a final score of 25-17 for the win.
Loyola returns home Sunday for more Metro Atlantic Conference play. The Greyhounds will host Iona at Reitz Arena, Sunday at 2 p.m.
