Niagara Falls, N.Y. - The Loyola College volleyball team earned its second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference win of the season with a 3-1victory over Niagara Sunday afternoon at the Gallagher Center. The Greyhounds improved to 4-14 on the season and 2-2 in the MAAC while the Purple Eagles fall to 2-9 and 0-4.
In four tight games, Loyola won game one 32-30. Niagara took game two 30-27. The `Hounds took games three and four by scores of 30-24 and 32-30.
Senior Blair Snyder led Loyola in kills with 13. She was closely followed by Karlee Woodward with 12 and recorded a team-high .387 hitting percentage. Setter Chrissey Cruz was credited with 39 assists and nine kills. Libero Kimi Gabriel led five `Hounds with double-digits in digs with 23. Nicole Scimeme recorded 18 digs, Snyder added 16, Cruz tallied 14 and Kim Burton and Anastasia Collins had 10 digs.
As a team, Loyola recorded three solo blocks and 24 block assists to Niagara's one solo block and 10 block assists. Rachel Schillinger led the Greyhounds on the block with two solos and seven assists. Snyder added six assists and Woodward recorded one solo block and five block assists. Maurin Lawrence led the Purple Eagles in blocks with one solo and three assists.
Nicole Piette led the game for Niagara with 24 kills. Holly Sahner added 20 kills and Lawrence and Ralean Rush tallied 16 and 13 kills respectively. Setter Mallory Boron was credited with 64 assists. Sara Mancini led with 29 digs while Jessica Piscitelli added 24. Rush tallied 19 while Boron and Natilie Martinez each added 10 digs.
The Greyhounds return to action on Saturday, September 30 when they host Siena at Towson University at 11:00 a.m.
