TOWSON, Md. - The Loyola College volleyball team rallied from a first set deficit to take a 1-0 lead at Towson on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match, but the Greyhounds could not keep up the momentum and lost, 22-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-14.
Nina Camaioni led Loyola with 14 kills and registered her second double-double in as many matches with 13 digs.
The Tigers led by as many as four in the early-going of set one, but Loyola tied it at 11-11 on a Towson ball-handling error.
A Camaioni kill gave Loyola a one-point lead, but Towson scored the next four to lead 15-12 on a Valerie Chromy kill.
Loyola slowly trimmed the Towson lead and again tied the score at 20-20 when Stasia Collins and Rachel Schillinger locked up a block on Maddie Haseltine. A Tigers block on the ensuing point put Towson back on top, but Kristen Muscarella fed Camaioni for a kill to tie it at 21-21.
Chromy hit a ball wide, and Camaioni put down another kill to give Loyola a 23-21 lead.
Towson called timeout, and Loyola had a service error, one of its nine in the match, to pull the Tigers within one, 23-22.
Collins and Karlee Woodward, however, blocked Britney Loomis, and a ball-handling error was called on Towson, to close the set, 25-22, in the Greyhounds' favor.
Loyola would be plagued, however, with inconsistent play over the final three sets. The Greyhounds hit .179 in the first set, but -.125, .129 and .121 in the final three.
Loomis matched Camaioni's 14 kills for Towson, and Shelynne Hoyt had nine total blocks for the Tigers.
Loyola returns to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action on Saturday, September 27, at 4 p.m. versus Niagara. Due to an event on Loyola's campus, the match will be played at neighboring College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
