Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College volleyball team fell to UMBC Thursday night, 3-1. The Greyhounds fell in game one 30-17 and game two 30-16, won game three 30-23 and fell in the finale 30-22. Loyola falls to 3-10 with the loss while the Retrievers improve to 7-7.
UMBC controlled games one and two but Greyhounds fought back strong in the third set of the night as Becky Corb, who finished with a team-high 15 kills for Loyola, recorded seven kills and .500 hitting percentage to pace the third-game win. After UMBC battled back from a 9-4 deficit, the Greyhounds broke a 21-21 tie and scored nine of the final 11 points in the set.
The Retrievers recorded 13 service aces in the match and 10 total blocks. Emily Berman led three UMBC players in double figures in kills with 17. She was followed by Jocelyn Feoh with 13 and Jessie Folk with 11.
Corb finished with 15 kills and was followed by Jamie Arndt with eight. The duo also led in digs with 16 and 13 respectively.
The Greyhounds face their third local rival in as many matches facing Coppin State on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:00.
