LORETTO, Pa. - Mindy Maloney had 13 kills in three sets on Friday night, but George Mason University defeated the Loyola University Maryland volleyball team, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18, at the Red Flash Classic hosted by Saint Francis (Pennsylvania) University.
Maloney, who had been limited due to injury for the past several matches, was three of her season- and career-high with the 13 kills had terminal swings on all but one of her 18 attempts. She logged her kill total with four errors for a .500 hitting percentage.
George Mason posted 8.5 blocks in the match and made just nine hitting errors despite Loyola leading the Patriots, 39-27, in kills. The Patriots also had seven service aces in the contest.
The Greyhounds play a pair of matches at the tournament on Saturday, starting with an 11 a.m. match against Morgan State University and wrapping up with a 7 p.m. contest versus the host Red Flash.
