Volleyball Topped In Tournament Pair On Friday

CATONSVILLE, Md. - Loyola University Maryland volleyball lost a pair of matches in tournament play on Friday, fall in three sets to both Howard University and Coppin State University on the first day of play at the Maddie Bingman Memorial Tournament at UMBC.

A morning match against Howard kicked off the action at the event with the Bison (6-3 overall) edging Loyola, 25-23, in the opening set before beating the Greyhounds (2-6), 25-20, 25-21, in the final two.

Faye Lukas had a season-high 23 kills in the match, the most by a Loyola player in a three-set match since Becky Corb put up the same total twice during the 2004 season.

Lukas hit a season-high .302 in the match, as well, putting away her 23 kills on 53 swings with seven errors. As a team, however, the Greyhounds hit .158 with 23 total errors.

Samantha Reeves posted a career-high and team-best 12 digs in the match against the Bison.

In the matinee against Coppin State, the Greyhounds were held to a .076 hitting percentage and lost 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.

Lukas again led the team in kills with 10, while Nicole Sarby and Jac Bullock each had six. Bullock also posted four aces and three blocks. Kelly McShea had 26 assists in the match, and Emma Falk made her collegiate debut with five digs and an ace.

Loyola wraps up play in the tournament on Friday at 12 noon against NJIT.
