Baltimore, Md. - The Loyola College volleyball team fell to UMBC, 3-1 Wednesday night at the RAC Arena. The Greyhounds fell in game one by a score of 30-20 but fought back in game two winning 30-22. The Retrievers came back to win games three and four by scores of 30-23 and 30-26 respectively. Loyola falls to 2-11 on the season while UMBC improves to 4-6.
The `Hounds were led on the attack by senior Blair Snyder and sophomore Rachel Schillinger's 12 kills each. Sophomore Maddie Fuller and freshman Chrissey Cruz each added eight kills. Cruz led the team in hitting percentage at .294. In addition to eight kills, Cruz posted 39 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Kimi Gabriel posted a team-high 27 digs while Snyder came in second with 21. Freshman Nicole Scheme also registered in the double-digits in digs with 12. Freshman Karlee Woodward led for Loyola in blocks with one solo block and three block assists.
The Retrievers had three players in double figures in kills with Ashley Oscars leading with 16. Kira Giles dished out 53 assists while Sarah Ball posted a team-high 17 digs.
Loyola returns home to open its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference schedule by hosting Manhattan on Saturday, September 16 at 6:00 in Reitz Arena.
