Hitting Game Leads Bison Past Volleyball

BALTIMORE - Loyola University Maryland freshman Stacey Kazalas matched her career-high with 14 kills, but Howard University hit .398 as a team and defeated the host Greyhounds in three, 25-19, 25-17, 25-18, in non-conference play Tuesday night.

Kazalas, who also had 14 kills in the season opener against Coppin State University, took 40 swings on Tuesday night for Loyola (1-6 overall).

Katherine Broussard, however, matched Kazalas for match-high honors with 14 kills, but she hit .458 with just three errors in 24 attempts. Khaila Donaldson added 10 kills for Howard (3-5), while Bison middles Whitney Fields and Assata Conway combined for 10 kills and only one error in 18 attempts.

The Greyhounds held a 16-14 first-set lead after Corri Waters and Danielle Hillman locked up Loyola's third block of the set, bit Howard scored the next five points and closed the set on an 11-3 run.

Jane Lukas added nine kills, while Hillman had four, for the Greyhounds. Kara Schiffer posted nine digs and an ace, while Lauren Andersen added eight digs, two aces and 27 assists.

Loyola returns to tournament action this weekend in Conway, South Carolina. The Greyhounds will play Coastal Carolina University, the University of Tennessee and Kennesaw State Unviersity in the Coastal Carolina Tournament Friday and Saturday.
